  • Interested in developing engineering solutions that foster positive social and economic development while minimising environmental impact? 
  • UniSQ’s Environmental and Sustainable Resources Engineering major provides first-class knowledge and skills to study and change the effects of major environmental issues, as well as work in some of the most influential environmental sectors.
  • A significant proportion of your degree will involve project-based learning with industry connection and aligns with the United Nation's sustainable development goals. 
  • You’ll learn to plan, design and implement change in the infrastructure of land development and rehabilitation, water and soil management and create innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Apply your knowledge through practical work experience and an exciting final year research project that will give you hands-on industry experience. Previous students have produced projects in the fields of an investigation into obtaining energy for abattoir wastewater, the revised field procedure for surface irrigation evaluation and the ranking of potential emissions reducing technologies for businesses.
  • Study when it suits you. We offer courses in three study periods (trimesters) throughout the year, online or on-campus, to allow you to progress at your own pace and balance work and family commitments.

Professional accreditation

When you graduate with your Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), you will be eligible to apply for membership with Engineers Australia as a graduate Professional Engineer. With the experience you will gain from working in the field, you may apply for chartered status as a Professional Engineer. You will also have the opportunity to work overseas, with your accreditation recognised in those countries that are signatories to the Washington Accord.

Career outcomes

  • After two years of full-time study with UniSQ, you’ll be workplace-ready and gain an additional Associate Degree of Engineering qualification as an embedded award on your way towards your Professional Engineer status.
  • A variety of careers are be available after you graduate as a qualified Professional Engineer, such as environmental consultant, renewable energy project manager, water resource engineer, environmental compliance specialist or sustainability analyst. 
  • Your skills could be applied in industries ranging from energy and water management to waste reduction and environmental impact assessment.

Entry requirements

Pre-requisites

  • Subject pre-requisites: English (Units 3 & 4, C), Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent
  • Recommended prior study: Physics (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

Residential schools

This degree has a mandatory attendance requirement for some of the residential school courses. All students will have the opportunity to come on-campus for residential schools, where you will attend face-to-face lectures and tutorials to gain practical experience, use facilities and specialist equipment, and meet staff and other students.

Professional experience

As part of your degree you will need to complete a minimum of 60 days of professional experience. This may be in an engineering office, laboratory, work site, factory, or somewhere you are already employed (in an industry relevant to your studies). You may be able to write up your existing work experience to meet this requirement. 

All students are responsible for securing the work placement as required and must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of practical experience within this program.
